1st generation: The entrepreneurs
Grietje and Hero Jan Hooghoudt got a special idea in 1888. It turns out to be the start of a great journey of discovery that leads to Grietje's first jenever in 1920. This gives them a beautiful Old Dutch name: Oude Klare
Today we see many young men and women setting up their own microbreweries and beverage brands, and 1888 was no different. Hero Jan Hooghoudt was a baker until then, but he and his wife Grietje got the bright idea to do what they liked even more: making drinks. Together they went on a wonderful voyage of discovery full of flavours, smells and colours, with which they would later even win prizes. In 1920, Grietje distilled her first jenever, with the beautiful Old Dutch name Oude Klare.
